Puget Sound celebrates Class of 2019

TACOMA, Washington – Nearly 90 Puget Sound student-athletes received their undergraduate diplomas during the university's 127th commencement in Baker Stadium Sunday afternoon. More than 3,000 people were attendance during the warm and sunny event.

Men's soccer captain Sam Gonzalez – an Academic All-American – led the processional as one of two standard-bearers.

Two-sport senior student-athlete Lura Morton (women's soccer, track & field) gave a speech during Saturday's convocation in Schneebeck Concert Hall. "Most importantly, our Puget Sound education has taught us how to listen," Morton said. "I do not mean listening as a passive observer. I mean truly listening. I mean listening on the soccer field for your teammate yelling to tell you that they out-ran their defender and are open in front of the goal. I mean sitting down for you appointment in the CWLT and hearing and absorbing the advice that the tutor offers. I mean driving to Gig Harbor to volunteer with Freedom Education Project Puget Sound and listening for what kind of help the women themselves ask for."
