Loggers continue to roll, win two games over Linfield

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound baseball team extending its winning streak to five games by taking both ends of a home doubleheader against Linfield Saturday afternoon.

 

Puget Sound 4, Linfield 3

Despite tallying just four hits to the Wildcats' 10, the Loggers edged out Linfield, 4-3, in the first game of the doubleheader. The Loggers entered the sixth inning in a 3-0 deficit, but they scored all four runs in the home half of the sixth.

Mason Quinlan began the rally with a leadoff single, and Corey Roberts followed with a walk. A single by Hunter Riley loaded the bases for Ricardo Barraza, who drew four balls to force in a run.

A passed ball allowed Roberts to score, and Jack Gries delivered a two-run single to put the Loggers up by one.

In relief of Davis Miller (5.1 innings, one earned run), Matthew Hicks and Joe Brennan shut the door on Linfield. The two relievers combined to only two hits through the game's final 3.2 innings. Brennan notched the save.

 

Puget Sound 14, Linfied 2

The Loggers posted the second-most runs in a game this season with a 14-4 victory in the second game Saturday. 

Puget Sound first struck in the third inning thanks to RBIs by both Kyle Strash and Mason Quinlan. The Loggers got four more runs in a fourth inning that was highlighted by Jack Gries' two-run double. 

After a four-run fourth, Puget Sound put up a five spot in the fifth. Tyler Brazelton and Makoa Mau both hit RBI singles, while Jake Briscoe ripped an RBI double.

Tyler Huling tossed six shutout innings while limiting Linfield to jus three hits. 

The Loggers and Wildcats conclude their weekend series Sunday, March 31, at 12 p.m. on Logger Baseball Field.
