YAKIMA, Wash. - Firing a season-low 337, the Puget Sound Loggers find themselves in second-place following the first round of the 2010 Northwest Conference Spring Classic at Apple Tree GC in Yakima, Wash.
The Loggers were led by a 10-over 82 from junior Natalie Nakamine (Honolulu, Hawaii/Roosevelt), which is good enough to enter Sunday's final round in a tie for third place. Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline), Stephanie Hoffee (Sandy, Utah/Waterford) and Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont.) all fired 13-over 85's to tie for sixth and combine for the 337. Megan Starr (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) finished round one outside the scoring but still tied for 15th overall at 15-over 87.
Emily Travis of Whitworth sits atop the individual leaderboard after a four-over 76 as Whitworth also sits on top of the team standings with a 43-over 331. The Loggers are six strokes back at 337, followed by George Fox (341), Linfield (434), Pacific (361), Whitman (380), Pacific Lutheran (401) and Willamette (457). Lewis & Clark did not bring enough golfers to score.
The NWC Spring Classic is one of three counting tournaments towards the conference championship. Teams will receive one point for every team they finish ahead of in the final team standings following Sunday's final round.
