TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's golf team placed second at the Whitman Invitational, which concluded Monday, while the women's team placed sixth at the Whitworth Invitational this past weekend.
The Logger men were in first place after the first round when they finished with a 292 score, and Puget Sound posted a score of 302 on Monday to finish with a total of 594 (+18). Whitworth (583, +7) won the event.
Adam Bean led the Loggers by placing third with an overall score of 145 (+1). Ben Hayes finished three strokes behind his teammate with a score of 148, which was good for a seventh-place tie. Ricky Howard also cracked the top 10 by tying for seventh, alongside Hayes.
The Logger women shot a 391 on the first day of the Whitworth Invitational and 381 on the second day, good for a 772 total (+196). Halle Peterson finished as Puget Sound's top golfer with a two-day score of 170 (+26), good for 14th overall. Molly Nelson finished close behind in 20th place, totally 184 (+40) through two days.
Both Puget Sound teams next compete in the Northwest Conference Fall Classic in Newberg, Oregon, starting on Oct. 25.
