Loggers nearly pull off comeback win on Senior Night

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's basketball team nearly pulled off an incredible upset win against No. 19 Whitworth at Memorial Fieldhouse on Saturday night, but the Pirates prevailed, 66-63, on Puget Sound's Senior Night.

Prior to the start of the game, Puget Sound honored its senior class: Erin Barber, Jonathan Brown, Nick Holden, James Osorio, and JJ Pavia.

The Loggers trailed by 18 points, 56-38, with 9:38 left in the second half, but Puget Sound refused to go quietly. Holden's three-point play sparked 9-2 run for Puget Sound, cutting the deficit to 58-47. His two free-throws with 3:35 on the clock made it a single-digit game, 60-52.

Erin Barber hit a layup with 2:09 on the clock, making the score 63-56 in favor of Whitworth. The Loggers came up with a couple of key defensive stops, while Osorio and Kohl Meyer combined to hit four consecutive free-throws and make it a 63-60 game with 41 seconds to go.

The Logger defense forced a turnover on the Pirates' ensuing possession, and Osorio immediately capitalized by hitting the game-tying 3-pointer from the corner with 28 seconds left.

Whitworth connected on a three-point play in its next possession, and the Loggers couldn't get a shot off as time expired.

Holden finished with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season, and Barber added 15 points. Both Holden and Barber shot 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.

The Loggers end the 2014-15 season with a 12-12 overall record (7-9 NWC), marking the third time in the past four years that Puget Sound has finished .500 or better.
