Men's basketball takes down Kingsmen, 80-75

TACOMA, Washington – Jimmy Wohrer had 19 points, as the Puget Sound men's basketball team defeated Cal Lutheran, 80-75, on Monday evening.

Wohrer led the way for the Loggers with 19 points, while Carlos Mancasola had 16 points. Timmy Saunders chipped in 12 points, and Kyle King added 10 off the bench.

For the first 10 minutes, the Loggers (7-3) and Kingsmen (7-1) traded the lead back-and-forth. The game was tied, 19-19, with nine minutes left, when Jimmy Wohrer made a three-pointer to put Puget Sound up 22-19. That shot sparked a 18-6 run for the visitors, leading to a 45-34 lead at halftime.

Cal Lutheran was able to tie the game up in the second half at 54-54, with 10:23 left in the game. However, Jeremiah Hobbs responded with a lay-up for the Loggers, and Puget Sound never trailed again, getting back on the winning track, with an 80-75 victory in Southern California.

Puget Sound shot 55.6 percent (30-for-54) from the field, while Cal Lutheran shot 39.1 percent (25-for-64). The Loggers were 9-for-23 (39.1 percent) from beyond the arc. The Kingsmen were 4-for-21 (19.0 percent) on 3-point shots. Puget Sound held a 38-30 rebounding edge.

Puget Sound rounds out its California road swing on Tuesday, December 20. The Loggers will play Redlands at 5 p.m.
