TACOMA, Washington – Gabriel Chaikin scored eight points in overtime to lead the Puget Sound men's basketball team to a 92-85 triumph against Linfield in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night.
With the Loggers (9-11, 5-6 NWC) trailing by two points late in regulation, Jimmy Wohrer went coast-to-coast to hit a layup that evened the score at 76-76, sending the game into overtime.
Chaikin scored 19 points in all, but he carried the Loggers in the extra period. The Loggers trailed by three, 80-77, when Chaikin drilled a corner 3-pointer in front of his team's bench with 2:50 on the clock.
Following a defensive stand, Chaikin once again tallied three points for the Loggers. He drove to the basket, lifted Linfield (14-6, 7-4 NWC) defenders with an up-fake, and drew the foul as the laid the ball in off the backboard.
The Loggers followed with another defensive stand, and Max Basile buried two free-throws to increase the lead to 86-80 with one minute left.
Wohrer scored a game-high 32 points, which is two points off of his season-high. Basile shot 4-for-6 from the beyond the arc on his way to a season-high 15 points.
The Loggers host Pacific Saturday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m.
