Doug McArthur is one of the most respected contributors to the promotion and development of sports in the Puget Sound area. He has been honored in multiple facets, including his induction into the Logger Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. Twenty years after his Hall of Fame induction, McArthur continued to receive honors in the region. Last year the Metro Parks Tacoma Board of Park Commissioners named Vassault Park ball fields after McArthur. McArthur is a graduate of Tacoma's Lincoln High School and later studied at Washington State University in Communications, and the University of Puget Sound in Journalism. McArthur chose to serve his country during the Korean War, and he ultimately graduated from the Armed Forces Information School in New York. McArthur returned to his alma mater of Puget Sound in 1965 as the Executive Director of the Alumni Association and Sports Information Director. He was named Director of Athletics in 1969. During his tenure as Athletic Director, McArthur also held numerous coaching positions including head golf coach, assistant baseball coach, and junior varsity basketball coach. McArthur also coached the first Puget Sound women's softball team, which he led to an unbeaten season. McArthur also spent time serving on the NCAA public relations committee for four years and was the radio and television voice for many of the Logger sport broadcasts.
