Defensive Gridlock Leads To Scoreless Draw

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Northwest Conference's two top defensive men's soccer teams, Puget Sound and Whitworth, played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday at Whitworth. Chris McDonald made three saves to record his seventh shutout of the year and tie for second on the Loggers' all-time list.

Both teams struggled to create scoring opportunities as both defensive lines stood up to their reputations and bottled up both attacks. Whitworth (8-0-2, 5-0-1 NWC) held the advantage of 12 shots to the Loggers (7-2-2, 4-1-1 NWC) seven. The Pirates also put three shots on goal while the Loggers had just one but McDonald was there to stop all three chances.

The Loggers were able to hold possession in final third as evidence by their five corner kicks while the Pirates did not attempt a corner kick in the 110 minutes of scoreless play.

McDonald, a senior from Newton, Mass., needs just three more shutouts to tie the Loggers career record.

The Loggers stay on the road this week but will only to have travel across town for a Fright night match at Pacific Lutheran. Start time is set for 5 p.m.
