SANTA CRUZ, California – Ethan Stern-Ellis made seven saves and Luke Murdock scored an early goal as the No. 17 Puget Sound men's soccer team battled to a 1-0 victory over Chapman Friday afternoon. UC-Santa Cruz hosted the contest.
Murdock netted his third goal of the season in the seventh minute by burying a close-range shot off a pass from Dane Schatz.
The Panthers (1-3-0) turned up the pressure late in the game, but Stern-Ellis turned away three shots in the game's final six minutes.
Chapman was physical all game, often times to a fault. The Panthers drew five yellow cards and a red card. Puget Sound (3-0-1) was not carded.
The Loggers remain in California to take on UC-Santa Cruz Sunday, Sept. 15, at 1:30 p.m.
