PORTLAND, Oregon – Amber Popovich smacked a bases-loaded double in the top of the eighth innings and the Puget Sound softball team held on for a 6-5 win at Lewis & Clark Saturday afternoon.
With score tied, 2-2, Jessica Gott led off the eighth inning with a single, and Erica Gott followed with a single of her own to put runners on the corners. Marissa Oda was intentionally walked to load the bases, and the runners each moved up a base following Lia Nakamoto's RBI single.
After Abby Brondos reached on a fielder's choice, Popovich ripped a bases-clearing double to left-center field.
Mackensie Pearlstein hit 3-for-5 at the top of the order for the Loggers, and the Gotts both tallied two hits.
The second game Saturday was suspended in a scoreless tie in the third inning. That game will resume Sunday, March 18, at 12 p.m.
Dating back to last season, the Loggers have won four consecutive games against the Pioneers.
