Loggers set for six NWC games in three-day stretch

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team is in for a wild trip as the Loggers play six Northwest Conference games against three opponents in a three-day span. Puget Sound takes on Pacific and Lewis & Clark, Thursday, March 29. Both contests are make-up games, and both will be played at Pacific. Puget Sound continues its regularly-scheduled slate at George Fox for a doubleheader Friday, March 30, and another doubleheader Saturday, March 31.

Puget Sound has a 5-5 record in March, including a three-game sweep at Lewis & Clark. The Loggers are averaging 5.1 runs per game this month, including three home runs.

 

Gott to be grand

Erica Gott's second home run of the season was a first-inning grand slam during the Loggers' 7-5 win at Pacific (March 25). Got leads the team in RBI (15), slugging percentage (.533), and doubles (10).

 

Poppin' her collar

Amber Popovich has been a tear in March. Through her last nine games, Popovich is hitting .545 (12-for-22) with three doubles, six RBI, and four runs scored.

 

Fresh approach

Freshman Mackensie Pearlstein leads the Loggers in hitting with a .338 batting average, and she has spent much of the season hitting in the top of the order. Pearlstein has a favorable BB:K ratio (9:9), and she is second on the team for runs scored with 10 (Amber Popovich has 12).

 

Scouting George Fox (22-5, 13-2 NWC)

The first-place Bruins have won nine consecutive games, including series sweeps over Pacific and Lewis & Clark. Madison Sorensen leads the NWC in wins (14) and strikeouts (94), and her 1.63 ERA is second in the league. Roni Braun is the NWC's second-leading home run hitting with six, and her 21 RBI rank ninth. The team's .579 slugging percentage is tops in the NWC. The Bruins also have the best ERA (2.43) in the conference.
