Logger swimming comes up short against Simon Fraser

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's and women's swim teams came up short against NCAA Division-II opponent Simon Fraser at  Wallace pool on Saturday afternoon.


The Logger women (5-2, 4-0 NWC) lost by a score of 151-102, while the Logger men (5-2, 4-0 NWC) fell, 156-100. Both losses for the Loggers this season have come to the formidable Simon Fraser program.

Mitch Kilgore won the 50-meter freestyle for the Puget Sound men, timing in at 24.05. Nick Mitchell picked another first-place finish for the Logger men by finishing the 800 freestyle in 8:46.85. Jared Fisk (1:00.12), Brian Parker (1:08.23), and Evan Hamamoto (1:09.47) finished second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the 100 butterfly.

The Puget Sound women's 200 freestyle relay team comprised of Melisa Keegans, Melissa Norrish,Lauren Kochanowski, and Michaela Metzler, also claimed first place with a time of 1:40.11. The women also claimed second, third, and fourth place in the 100 breaststroke thanks to Ally Hembree (1:21.83), Anne Shirey (1:24.39), and Maddie Markel (1:38.39).

Both Puget Sound medley relay teams placed second as the women timed in at 2:02.82 and the men finished in 152.82.

The Loggers return to the pool when they host Northwest Conference rival Whitworth on Friday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m.
