Logger swimming falls to PLU in final NWC meet

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound swim teams faced crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran on Saturday afternoon. The women's side featured a battle of unbeaten teams in the Northwest Conference.


Both Logger teams fell to the Lutes. The Puget Sound women (7-3, 6-1 NWC) fell 86-176 while the Puget Sound men (5-5, 4-3 NWC) lost 87-175.

Despite the loss, Melissa Norrish, Melisa Kegans and Auri Clark all wrapped up first place finishes for the Logger women. Norrish won all of her individual races, finishing first in the 500 freestyle (5:14.56), 200 freestyle (1:57.57), and 200 butterfly (2:13.84). Clark touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley (2:16.17). Kegans won the 100 freestyle (55:22).

Nick Mitchell came away with several first place finishes for the Logger men. He won the 1,000 freestyle (10:09.56), 500 freestyle (4:53.60) and 200 freestyle (1:47.52). The Logger men closed out the meet by placing first in the 400 freestyle relay. Matt Goldberg, Keven Henley, Clayton Jacobson and Mitch Kilgore combined for a time of 3:16.20.

The Loggers now have two weeks off to prepare for the Northwest Conference Championships on Feb. 13-15 in Corvallis, Oregon.
