SALEM, Ore.—Puget Sound track and field senior Alicia Burns competed in her final regular season track meet Wednesday night, running the 800 meter run at the West Coast Invite held in Salem, Ore.
Burns ran the event in 2:14.01, her second-fastest time of the season and faster than five Division I athletes. It beats all of her other marks in the distance except a 2:13.00 she ran May 10 at the Ken Shannon Invitational in Seattle. The Northwest Conference Champion in the 800 meter run is currently tied for 21st in the nation in the event and still a threat to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Like Burns, sophomore Allanah Whitehall has a chance to make the NCAA Championships as well. The two-time conference winner is currently tied for 19th in the nation in the 100 meter dash. She has a time of 12.15 in the event, the top time on the school's performance list.
The NCAA Championship meet will be held May 22-24 in Delaware, Ohio.
