Lange sets school record with 24 rebounds in season-opening win

THOUSAND OAKS, California – Jamie Lange set a Puget Sound record with 24 rebounds to lead the Puget Sound women's basketball team to a 72-70 win at Cal Lutheran in the 2019-20 season-opener Friday night.

Lange began her fourth Logger season with a double-double, adding 17 points to big night on the glass. She broke Michelle Joy's school record of 23 rebounds in a game, which stood since the 1988-89 season.

Puget Sound (1-0) dominated on the boards, 57-33. RaeAnn Allen added 10 rebounds, and Gia Sorn had seven boards and 10 points off the bench.

Cassidy Daugherty finished with 13 points, including a big last-second bucket.

The Loggers trailed for most of the game, including a 39-35 deficit at halftime. The Regals held a 65-58 lead midway through the fourth quarter when Rebekah Dasalla hit a layup for the Loggers. Following a defensive stop, Daugherty hit a 3-pointer to bring the Loggers to within 65-63.

Puget Sound finally took its first lead of the game, 68-67, when Grace Pytynia-Hillier hit a 3-pointer with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

Cal Lutheran briefly reclaimed a lead, but Daugherty hit a clutch driving left-handed layup to give the Loggers a 71-70 edge with four seconds left. The next Regals' possession ended in a turnover to seal the Puget Sound win.

The Loggers take on Claremont-M-S Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m.
