Women's soccer comes up short against Lutes

TACOMA, Washington - The No. 23 Puget Sound women's soccer team nearly found the back of the net, but it was an early Pacific Lutheran goal that held as the game-winner for the Lutes to collect a 1-0 win on Wednesday afternoon.

The Loggers (7-3-1, 5-1-1) and the Lutes (9-1-1, 7-0-0) offensive efforts were equally matched as both teams had five shots on goal throughout the contest.

Puget Sound turned it up in the second half as 4 of their 5 shots were on goal. In the last minute of the game, Genny Jilka gave the Loggers an opportunity to tie it up with a shot veering left of the net, but the goalkeeper barely got a touch on it for the corner kick. CeAnn Romanaggi's corner kick was placed perfectly in the middle of the box, but Pacific Lutheran would kick it upfield and ultimately run the clock down.

Chaylea Tome had three saves for Puget Sound.

The Loggers host Pacific on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 12 p.m.
