Loggers dominate first day of Puget Sound Premiere

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team opened its 2019 season with a pair of dominant wins in the first day of the Puget Sound Premiere Friday in Memorial Fieldhouse.

 

Puget Sound 3, Widener 1 (25-16, 25-17, 14-25, 25-14)

Jordan Holman posted a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs has the Loggers topped Widener, 3-1, in the first match of 2019.

Puget Sound cruised the first two sets before faltering in the third, but the Loggers regained their composure for a smooth victory in the fourth set.

Sarah Blumenfeld finished with a game-high 20 assists, and Aliah Ayau added 16.

Sadie Alloway finished with eight kills, but her serving set the tone early. The Loggers trailed, 4-1, in the first set, but Puget Sound went on a 6-0 run with Alloway serving.

 

 

Puget Sound 3, Rose-Hulman 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-22)

Jordan Holman stayed hot with a game-high 10 kills, and Aliah Ayau came away with a team-high 13 assists as the Loggers topped Rose-Hulman in three sets.

Puget Sound totaled nine blocks, including three by Melanie Siacotos. The Loggers' defense limited Rose-Hulman to a .042 hitting percentage.

Freshmen Cara Bolte and Jena Williams each totaled seven kills for the Loggers.

The Loggers wrap up the Puget Sound Premiere Saturday, Aug. 31, with matches against Wheaton (1 p.m.) and Pacific Lutheran (5 p.m.).
