Puget Sound returns to California for Leopard Invitational

TACOMA, Washington – Less than a week after competing in the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, the Puget Sound volleyball team makes a return to the Golden State for the Leopard Invitational hosted by La Verne, Sept. 13-14.

The opposition

Puget Sound has four matches this weekend. On Friday, Sept. 13, the Loggers play against UC-Santa Cruz (12 p.m.) and Pomona-Pitzer (7 p.m.). The following day, Puget Sound takes on Whittier (4 p.m.) and La Verne (6:30 p.m.).

 

Net gain

Puget Sound ranks second in the NWC for total blocks (59) and blocks per set (1.84). Melanie Siacotos' 32 blocks are the second most in the conference, and Katherine Carley is tied for eighth with 18 blocks.

 

Aces up their sleeve

In addition to total blocks, the Loggers also rank second in the NWC for total service aces (74). Jordan Holman's 19 service aces rank second in the NWC, and Sarah Blumenfeld is seventh with 14 aces. Freshman Chloe Akiona-Bannan cracks the league's top 10 with 12 aces so far this season.

 

Around the NWC

Only three teams in the Northwest Conference are above .500 overall: No. 24 Pacific Lutheran (6-2), Whitworth (5-2), and Pacific (5-3). Puget Sound is right at .500 with a 4-4 record.

 

Looking ahead

The NWC season gets underway in Memorial Fieldhouse, Sept. 20-21, when the Loggers host Whitman and Whitworth.
